Isusu Ffena Festival 2022

The Isusu Ffena festival 2022 is the second annual festival hosted by the pan-Afrikan collective called Isusu Ffena. It was hosted with the theme “Community and Identity in a New Cityscape” and was hosted from the 12th to the 13th of August 2022 at Callie’s in Berlin, Germany. The festival was organized by a committee of young African women living in Europe – Nora Chirikure (she/her), Tsitsi Mareika Chirikure (she/her), Rutendo Madzikanda (she/her) and Lorna Leku Queenie (she/her). The festival was also supported by seventeen volunteers. The festival consisted of seven individual events that were spread over the course of two days which included a variety of formats for guests to interact with artists and their work.

Isusu Ffena = Us Together

A passion project belonging to five young, hip, femme, ambitious and creative people. What interests and excites us most is being able to explore our curiosities - from how to establish Afrikan owned institutions, to decolonizing spacial practices and policies; from exploring how society conditions us to be racist and colourist to creating cultural spaces that allow us to escape stifled environments and so much more.

What we do best and how we do it.

What we do best
Connecting audiences and artists, crisscrossing narratives and weaving a story by our community for our community.

How we do it?
Through exhibitions, parties, panel discussions, workshops and any other events that connect us together (lately, mainly through our engaging Instagram Live series). As a collective we set out to reclaim Afrikan narratives, embracing and embodying their many facets including those that are sometimes neglected even in our own communities (such as queer identities & Afro-feminism). The spaces we create are therefore there for people to educate, mobilize and reflect without the burdens of having to explain or compare. Spaces, both physical and conceptual, where we can grow.
