Colourism Workshop
05.03.2022
15.00 - 17.00CET
Aequa - Exerzierstr. 14
13357 Berlin

Isusu Ffena invites you to join us for an intimate workshop on colourism. This is the first in a three part series spanning over the course of the year.

As a system of oppression within our community and beyond, colourism is oftentimes ignored and the gravity of its effects are often dismissed. We assert that it is a system that privileges lighter skinned tones over darker skinned tones and that it is a global issue rooted in racism and is a direct result of white supremacy and anti-blackness.

Three focus areas*; “Colourism and work spaces”, “... and relationships” and “... and you” will be explored within the workshop, accompanied with a Q&A session that opens up to the wider discussion. Each of the focus areas includes a meditative breathing exercise,  interactive games and discourse.

We are beyond acknowledgement, we know colourism exists, we want CHANGE!

  • Duration: 2hrs 15mins

  • This workshop is open to all black people. In interests of amplifying the voices that have been left out we will give special priority  to dark skinned black people, especially those who identify as queer, women and/or femmes.

  • The workshop will be held in English.

  • Donation Base Entrance

  • The intimate nature of this workshop requires a restriction of maximum 12 participants. We ask that we are all mindful of the space we take up as we navigate this topic together, especially if you are light skinned.

  • In preparation for the event please check out the reading list provided HERE and reflect on the three focus areas* and how you are contributing to the conversation on these various topics.

  • Please be aware that this is a 2G+ event.
